Job Driver ("we," "us," "our") builds tools that help you track job applications, generate tailored resumes and cover letters, and analyze your resume against job descriptions — through our website, our LinkedIn browser extension, and related services. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how you can control it.

Overview

Job Driver is an AI-powered job search assistant made up of a few connected parts: a web app for managing applications and resume data, a Chrome/Edge extension that works on LinkedIn, and backend services (including third-party AI providers) that generate tailored resumes, cover letters, and resume analysis. This policy covers all of them.

By creating an account or installing the extension, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here. If you don't agree, please don't use Job Driver.

Information we collect

Account information

When you register, we collect your name, email address, password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never store your plain-text password), and optionally a birth date and LinkedIn profile URL. If you sign in with Google, we instead receive your name, email, profile picture, and Google account ID from Google's sign-in service.

Resume and CV data

When you upload a resume (PDF) or fill in your profile, we extract and store structured resume data — contact details, work experience, education, skills, certifications, projects, and similar sections — so we can generate tailored documents on demand. This data is stored in our database tied to your account.

Job application data

When you apply to a job through the extension or add a job listing yourself, we store details like the job title, company name, location, job URL, work arrangement (remote/hybrid/on-site), and the date you applied, so we can show you application history and charts. If you post a listing to our public jobs board, its title, description, salary, deadline, and application link are visible to other users.

Generated documents

Job descriptions you submit for resume tailoring, cover letter generation, or resume analysis are processed to produce your requested output (a PDF, DOCX, or on-screen analysis). We keep a count of how many resumes and cover letters you've downloaded, in each format, to enforce plan limits — we don't retain the generated file itself after it's sent to you.

Billing information

Subscription payments are handled by our payment processor, Polar. We store your subscription tier, status, and billing period — we do not collect or store your card details ourselves; Polar processes those directly.

Information collected automatically

We log basic request data (method, endpoint, timestamp) for debugging and abuse prevention, and use your IP address for rate-limiting features like guest resume analysis. If analytics are enabled on the site, we may record anonymous interaction events (like button clicks) to understand usage.

The Job Driver browser extension

The extension reads job posting details (title, company, location, description, work arrangement, and apply link) directly from the LinkedIn pages you visit, but only when you interact with it — for example, clicking "Apply" or "Customized Resume." It does not track your general browsing outside of job listing pages.

After you log in on jobdriver.org, the extension stores your session token and name locally in your browser (via chrome.storage.local) so you stay signed in. This data stays on your device and is removed when you log out or uninstall the extension.

How we use AI to process your data

To generate tailored resumes, cover letters, resume/job-match analysis, and job summaries, we send relevant data — such as your resume content and the job description you provide — to third-party AI providers, currently including Google (Gemini) and Groq. These providers process the data to return structured results (like a reordered or highlighted resume, or a written cover letter) and are bound by their own data handling terms as our processors.

We do not use your resume or job description data to train our own models, and we only send what's needed to generate the specific output you requested.

Cookies, tokens, and local storage

We use a short-lived access token (stored in your browser's local storage) to authenticate your requests, and a longer-lived refresh token stored in an HTTP-only, secure cookie to keep you signed in without re-entering your password. The refresh cookie can't be read by JavaScript and is only sent to our servers.

We don't use third-party advertising cookies or sell data to ad networks. If you clear your browser's local storage and cookies, you'll be signed out.

How we share information

We share information only as needed to operate the service:

  • Cloud infrastructure — account, resume, and application data is stored with Google Cloud/Firebase.
  • AI providers — Google (Gemini) and Groq, as described above.
  • Payments — Polar, to process subscriptions and billing.
  • Email delivery — for account verification and transactional emails (e.g., "verify your email").
  • Google Sign-In — if you choose to log in with Google.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a merger or acquisition of Job Driver.

Data retention

We keep your account and resume data for as long as your account is active. Job application history is retained until you delete individual entries or your account. You can delete a saved job application, a public job listing you posted (if you're the owner or an admin), or request full account deletion at any time.

Verification tokens and password reset tokens expire automatically (typically within 24 hours) and can't be reused after that window.

Security

Passwords are hashed with bcrypt before storage. Access to your account requires a signed token that expires and is refreshed through a secure, HTTP-only cookie. Administrative actions on shared resources (like editing or deleting public job listings) are restricted by account role and ownership checks on our servers.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard practices and restrict access to data on a need-to-know basis.

Your choices and rights

  • Access & update — you can view and edit your profile and resume data from your account at any time.
  • Delete — you can delete individual applications or listings, or request deletion of your entire account and associated data by contacting us.
  • Sign out everywhere — logging out clears your local session and removes the extension's stored token.
  • Marketing emails — we only send account-essential emails (like verification); we don't send marketing email without separate consent.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights — such as access, correction, deletion, or portability of your data under laws like the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA. Contact us to exercise these rights.

Children's privacy

Job Driver is intended for people who are eligible to work and are actively job searching. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we'll remove it.

International users

Our servers and service providers may be located in the United States or other countries. By using Job Driver, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws than your own.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through the app. Continuing to use Job Driver after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
